Ipswich Town manager Keirian McKenna has issued an update on the potential availability of Nigeria-eligible striker Chuba Akpom ahead of the Tractor Boys’ trip to Loftus Road for their EFL Championship clash against Queens Park Rangers, Footynaija.com reports.
Akpom suffered an injury to his shin during Ipswich Town’s 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion last weekend. The former Ajax striker ended up on the deck and was unable to continue with the game following a rough challenge from West Brom’s Ousmane Diakite.
That setback sparked fears of a potentially lengthy spell on the sidelines for Akpom but head coach McKenna allayed any existing worries after revealing he expects the 30-year-old summer acquisition to be fit for QPR.

“Chuba was a really heavy impact injury, a lot of swelling, a lot of pain. He missed a few days training, but hopefully come Saturday, he’ll be ready to be involved in the squad,” McKenna said, per East Anglian Daily Times.

Akpom joined Ipswich Town on loan from Ajax in the summer but he has yet to hit the ground running at Portman Road with zero goal contribution in eight appearances for the Tractor Boys so far.
The Arsenal academy graduate has made McKenna’s starting XI on just four occasions thus far and despite his expected availability for the trip to Loftus Road, last weekend’s injury scare may well relegate him to yet another substitute appearance.
Having suffered relegation from the Premier League last season, Ipswich Town entered this campaign aiming for an immediate return to top flight football.
So far, things haven’t gone according to plan. A record of four wins, four draws and three losses currently leaves the Tractor Boys in 12th position with 16 points.
