Abuja is preparing for a football spectacle as Barcelona’s iconic Legends team take on a glittering cast of African greats at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium on Saturday, 25 October, Footynaija.com reports.
The Spanish giants’ alumni will be managed by former right-back Albert Ferrer, with the headline attraction being 2005 Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldinho.
The Brazilian magician will be joined by an array of familiar faces including Javier Saviola, Ludovic Giuly, Fernando Navarro, Roberto Trashorras, Marc Valiente, Jesús Angoy, and Nigeria’s own Samuel Okunowo.
Their opponents are equally glamorous. The Africa Legends side will feature Jay-Jay Okocha, Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Adebayor, Alex Song.
This will be Barcelona Legends’ fifth appearance on the continent, after outings in Mozambique, Morocco, Zambia, and DR Congo. Their last match came in Monterrey, Mexico, where a David Villa hat-trick inspired a 3-2 win.
Organisers expect around 60,000 fans in Abuja to witness the clash, billed as both a showcase of Barça’s enduring football philosophy and a celebration of Africa’s rich football tradition.
With Ronaldinho and Okocha pulling the strings, fans can expect a carnival of skill, nostalgia, and pure entertainment.
