EFL Championship side Hull City are on the verge of completing a summer transfer for experienced Nigerian winger Babajide David Akintola ahead of the 2025/2026 season, Footynaija.com reports.

Akintola is set to become Hull City’s second Nigerian signing of the summer, following The Tigers’ acquisition of former West Bromwich Albion center-back Semi Ajayi earlier in the transfer window.

Just like Ajayi, Akintola will be joining the EFL Championship side as a free agent after cutting ties with former employers Caykur Rizespor, following the expiration of his contract with the Turkish Super Lig outfit.

As per several reports, the 29-year-old winger will put pen to paper on a two-year contract, committing his future to MKM Stadium until July, 2027.

Babajide David Akintola’s professional journey so far

Babajide David Akintola was groomed at FC Ebedei, a well-known Nigerian football academy, where he quickly caught the eye as one of Nigeria’s brightest young talents.

In November 2014, Akintola’s potential earned him a move to Danish side FC Midtjylland, through their partnership with FC Ebedei. He wasted no time proving himself, scoring nine goals for the U19 team and helping them secure the league title in the 2014/2015 season.

Promoted to the senior team right after, he embarked on a series of loan spells across Europe. From Denmark to Norway’s FK Jerv, then FK Haugesund, and later to giants Rosenborg, Akintola gained vital experience.

His journey continued through Cyprus with Omonia Nicosia before moving to Turkey where he enjoyed stints at Hatayspor, Adana Demirspor and most recently, Caykur Rizespor in the Super Lig.

This imminent move to Hull City will provide the 29-year-old with his first taste of English football. Alongside his compatriot Ajayi, the wide forward will be looking to help Hull City achieve their ambitions next season.
