Should ₦90 billion rated Super Eagles forward push for a move away from Bayer Leverkusen this summer?

Super Eagles forward Victor Okoh Boniface is one of the many Nigerian stars in Europe who potentially have to make what could be the biggest decisions of their careers regarding their next move this summer, Footynaija.com reports.

Boniface, one of Nigeria’s most talented strikers in Europe, enjoyed a wonderful debut campaign with Bayer Leverkusen, scoring 21 goals and providing nine assists in 34 appearances after joining from Union Saint Gilloise in 2023.

Under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso, he played a key role in helping Die Werkself clinch their first-ever Bundesliga title as well as a DFB Pokal triumph, establishing himself as a fan favourite at the Bay Arena.

However, Boniface’s second season in Germany has not lived up to the heights of his debut. Hampered by injury setbacks, the 24-year-old managed just 11 goals in 27 appearances, with his form dipping noticeably after the winter break.

A €70 million move to Al-Nassr seemed imminent in January, but the Saudi club eventually pulled out of the deal, opting instead to sign Jhon Duran.

Since then, Boniface has struggled to regain his spot in the starting lineup, managing just two goals and spending most matches on the bench.

Bayer Leverkusen are looking to cut ties with Victor Boniface this summer

According to reports from German outlet Sports Bild in March, Leverkusen are prepared to part ways with Boniface after their failed attempt to offload him during the January transfer window. A €50 million fee equivalent to ₦90 billion in Nigerian currency would be enough to close a deal as per that report.

The club’s stance appears to have hardened with Xabi Alonso’s exit to Real Madrid and the appointment of Erik ten Hag. The former Manchester United boss is expected to reshape the squad to fit his tactical vision, potentially leaving Boniface out of future plans.

Should Boniface push to stay or leave Bayer Leverkusen?

For Boniface, the decision to stay or leave comes down to ambition and opportunity. On one hand, a move could offer him a fresh start, perhaps in a league where he can regain top form and fulfill his considerable potential.

On the other hand, a full pre-season of dedication and hard work under Ten Hag could reclaim his place and re-establish himself as a key figure in Die Werkself’s attack.

With the Nigeria international turning 25 this year, he still has time is still on his side. However, whether that time will be best spent in Leverkusen or elsewhere remains the biggest question of the summer.
