Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will be on the market this summer transfer window following the activation of a £9 million relegation release clause in his Leicester City contract, Footynaija.com reports.

Leicester City’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed following a narrow 1-0 defeat to newly crowned champions Liverpool at the King Power Stadium on Easter Sunday, joining fellow strugglers Southampton in an immediate return to the EFL.

As per reports from BBC Sport, Leicester’s relegation means that Ndidi’s release clause is now active and interested clubs can acquire the Nigeria international, whose current market value stands at £15 million, for just £9 million this summer.

Ndidi looked to be on his way out of the King Power Stadium last summer when his contract expired but the Foxes managed to tie the highly dependable Nigerian midfielder to a new three year deal before the start of the 2024/2025 season.

However, it is looking increasingly likely that he will depart the Midlands club this summer with reported interest from the French Ligue 1’s AS Monaco and Marseille as well as the Spanish La Liga’s Atletico Madrid and Real Betis.

This summer transfer window is set to be a pretty eventful one for many Nigerian players in Europe including Ndidi and the 28-year-old’s future is one that will be monitored closely by football enthusiasts all over the globe.

Signed from Genk in 2017, Ndidi is currently one of Leicester City’s longest serving soldiers. During his time at the King Power, he has won the FA Cup and the EFL Championship. He also recently hit 300 appearances for the club in a 3-0 defeat to Wolves on Saturday.
