“They are crazy” – Ex-Inter Milan man Materazzi slams Man United for selling ‘complete player’

Former Inter Milan stalwart Marco Materazzi has voiced his disbelief over Manchester United’s decision to let Scott McTominay leave for Napoli, labeling the move as “crazy” and hailing McTominay as a ‘complete player’, Soccernet.ng reports.

McTominay, a product of United’s youth academy, made his senior debut in 2017 and went on to feature in over 200 matches for the club, securing both the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.
Known for his physicality, aerial ability, and goal-scoring runs from midfield, McTominay evolved from a defensive holding midfielder under managers Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjær into a versatile presence capable of impacting games on both ends of the pitch.

In a summer 2024 transfer valued at £25.7 million, the Scottish international made the move to Napoli, concluding a seven-year tenure at Old Trafford.

His impact in Italy was immediate; McTominay opened his account for Napoli with a goal in the Coppa Italia against rivals Palermo and netted his first Serie A goal just 25 seconds into a clash with Como, helping Napoli to a 3-1 victory.

Materazzi, an admirer of McTominay’s dynamic style, praised the midfielder’s influence on Napoli’s early surge to the top of the Serie A standings.

“I love McTominay,” Materazzi said, as per Tutto Napoli. “Every time I see him play, I keep asking myself a question that I have already answered: how did United let him slip away? Well, they are crazy. That’s because he is a complete player.”

With McTominay integral to Napoli’s midfield, the Italian club currently sits atop Serie A as they seek to maintain momentum throughout the season.
