Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has reportedly been offered a record-breaking contract to join Greek football giants AEK Athens, Soccernet.football understands.

The French striker, who left Old Trafford this summer after nine years, is yet to secure a new club, making his next move a topic of significant interest.

Martial, who initially arrived at Manchester United from AS Monaco for a £44 million fee, has been linked with a variety of options since his departure, including potential lucrative deals in Saudi Arabia and the United States.

However, it now seems that the Greek Super League could be his next destination, with AEK Athens showing serious interest.

Reports indicate that AEK Athens is prepared to make Martial the highest-paid player in the club’s history.

During his time with Manchester United, the 28-year-old striker earned £250,000 per week, and while the exact wage on offer in Greece has not been disclosed, it is expected to be substantial.

According to Sport24, via TheSun, AEK is willing to surpass the earnings of their current highest earner, former Tottenham Hotspur winger Erik Lamela, to secure Martial’s signature.

This proposed deal could lead to an intriguing reunion between Martial and Lamela, especially after their infamous clash in 2020 when Martial was sent off for striking Lamela during Tottenham’s 6-1 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.

AEK’s director, Panagiotis Kone, has been in London recently, holding talks with Chelsea regarding David Datro Fofana.

He is expected to play a crucial role in negotiations with Martial as well.

Although Lille was previously rumoured to be interested in Martial, their president, Olivier Letang, has categorically denied any contact with the French forward.

Martial’s time at Manchester United saw him make 317 appearances and score 90 goals.
