Manchester City dismiss £60m deal claims for Liverpool’s 24-goal star

Manchester City have denied reports suggesting they have agreed to sign Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, after rumours surfaced that the Premier League champions were prepared to pay £60 million for the Colombian winger, Soccernet.football reports.

The speculation began when El Chiringuito TV claimed that City had reached a ‘five-year agreement’ with Diaz, and their reporter Marcos Benito added that the club was ‘willing to pay €70 million’ for the talented wide player.

However, these sensational claims have been refuted by Manchester City.

Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano quickly debunked the rumours, posting on X (formerly Twitter), “Manchester City sources deny any agreement with Luís Diaz after recent reports.”

These reports surfaced shortly after Diaz’s impressive performance in Liverpool’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla, where he scored twice under new head coach Arne Slot.

Since joining Liverpool from Porto in 2022 for £37.5 million, Diaz has been a standout performer for the Reds, although his goal-scoring record has not matched that of his predecessor, Sadio Mane.

While Mane scored 120 goals in 269 appearances, Diaz has netted 24 in 98 games, a goal every 4.08 matches on average.

Last season, Diaz faced challenges off the pitch, including a period of absence due to his father’s kidnapping in Colombia, which disrupted his form and his place in the starting lineup.

Despite this, Diaz has shown signs of resurgence, benefiting from individual coaching sessions that have sharpened his off-the-ball movement.

Speculation about Diaz’s future has been rife, with interest reportedly coming from Saudi Arabian clubs, Paris Saint-Germain, and even Barcelona. Yet, for now, it seems Manchester City are not in the race to secure his services.
