Barcelona have been dealt a significant injury setback as defender Andreas Christensen is expected to be out for two months due to an Achilles tendon issue, Soccernet.football reports.

The Danish centre-back, who has been linked with a summer move away from the Camp Nou, now faces an extended period on the sidelines.

Christensen’s absence compounds the defensive challenges Barcelona already face, with key players such as Ronald Araujo and Clement Lenglet also unavailable.

Christensen’s injury woes have persisted since last season, and the club has opted for a treatment plan that will keep him out of action for the next two months, according to journalist AlexPintanel.

His condition adds to Barcelona’s growing list of injured players, which includes Ansu Fati, Frenkie de Jong, and Gavi, further straining the team’s resources as they navigate the early stages of the new La Liga campaign.

The injury comes at a particularly inconvenient time, as Barcelona may now be forced to reconsider their transfer strategy.

With Mikayil Faye nearing a move to Rennes and Lenglet set to join Atletico Madrid on loan, the Catalan giants might need to dip into the transfer market to bolster their defensive options before the window closes.

Barcelona’s opening match against Valencia saw Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez start in the heart of the defence, but Martinez himself is nursing a minor injury.

As they prepare to face Athletic Bilbao, Barcelona are aiming for back-to-back victories but must do so with a severely depleted squad.
