France’s football team manager, Didier Deschamps, will keep his job, according to Philippe Diallo, the president of the French Football Federation (FFF), Soccernet.football reports.

This comes after France’s 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 semi-final.

Deschamps, who led France to victory in the 2018 World Cup, has faced criticism following the loss.

Randal Kolo Muani scored early for France, but Spain’s Lamine Yamal and Dani Olmo quickly turned the game around, securing their place in the final.

Despite being one of the favourites to win the tournament, France fell short once again. This led to questions about Deschamps’ future as the team’s head coach.

However, Diallo has made it clear that Deschamps will remain in his role until at least the end of his contract in 2026.

In an interview with L’Equipe, Diallo said, “I don’t see any reason to question his contract. The past results speak in his favour and the objectives have been achieved.

“Didier will continue his mission. We will talk together in the coming days to analyse in more depth what we lacked during this semi-final and what would have allowed us to go higher.”

France, who have won the World Cup twice, will play again in September. They are set to face Italy and Belgium in the Nations League.
