Former France and Arsenal striker Thierry Henry has been tipped to replace Steve Clarke as Scotland’s manager, Soccernet.football reports.

Scotland, who suffered a scandalous 5-1 loss to Germany on the opening day, were knocked out of Euro 2024 after a 1-0 loss to Hungary at the Stuttgart Arena on Sunday.

After earning a 1-1 draw with Switzerland on matchday two, Scotland needed a win to advance to the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time but failed to score from their four shots on goal.

Kevin Csoboth’s late goal handed Hungary a memorable win and sealed Scotland’s exit, leaving the team at the bottom of Group A with just one point.

Steve Clarke’s future as Scotland’s manager is now uncertain. His contract runs until July 2026, after the next World Cup.

Robert Earnshaw, a former Wales international, suggested Henry for the role in an interview with FourFourTwohttp://Soccernet.football.

He said, “One name who is left field but I’d throw is Thierry Henry.

“It’s my own personal thought. I spent some time with Thierry on the coaching course a couple of years ago because he was on the Welsh FA course. He knows (technical director) David Adams and the set-up, and he understands Welsh football.

“The one thing that stood out when I was sat with Thierry was his football brain is brilliant. With France U21s and the Olympic team, he understands young players. He would raise the bar and the level.”

Earnshaw added: “I don’t know whether he would want it. I could see someone like Thierry doing it. His football brain is brilliant, he’s so sharp, advanced and has got great ideas.”

Henry is currently preparing to coach France at the Paris Olympics next month. He has named players like Michael Olise, Alexandre Lacazette, and Jean-Philippe Mateta in his squad.

Henry began his coaching career in 2015 as an under-19 coach at Arsenal. He later became an assistant manager for Belgium during Euro 2016 and took his first managerial role at Monaco in 2018.
