FC Cincinnati midfielder Luciano Acosta has been named the Major League Soccer Player of the Month for May 2024, Soccernet.football reports.

This is Acosta’s fifth time receiving the award and his fourth with FC Cincinnati.

Acosta has been outstanding this season, leading his team to a club-record seven-game winning streak in May. Cincinnati won five out of six matches during the month, including all three away games.

Acosta’s contributions were crucial, making him the first player in FC Cincinnati’s history to record a goal or assist in nine consecutive matches.

In May, Acosta also became the eighth player in MLS history to achieve at least 10 assists in four consecutive seasons.

He scored his 150th career goal contribution against St. Louis CITY SC, joining Kei Kamara as one of the few active players to reach this milestone.

Acosta played a key role in all of FC Cincinnati’s wins in May, and he now ranks just behind Josef Martínez, Landon Donovan, and Carlos Ruiz, who each have six Player of the Month honors.

In 2024, Acosta has scored seven goals and provided 10 assists. He leads the league with five game-winning goals and nine game-winning contributions. Since the start of 2023, he tops MLS with 14 games of multiple goals or assists and 11 games with both a goal and an assist, totaling 48 goal contributions.

Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain Lionel Messi was awarded MLS Player of the Month in April, following his Inter Miami teammate Luis Suárez, who won in February/March.
