Bayer Leverkusen have completed an unbeaten Bundesliga season by defeating Augsburg 2-1 on Saturday.

With the victory, the German champions extended their undefeated streak to 51 matches in all competitions.

The match, held at Leverkusen’s home ground, saw goals from Nigerian import Victor Boniface in the 12th minute and Robert Andrich 15 minutes later. Augsburg’s Mert Komur scored in the 62nd minute, but Leverkusen held on for the win.

Leverkusen celebrated on the pitch with their coach, Xabi Alonso, lifting the Bundesliga trophy in front of a packed stadium.

It is the Red and Black’s first league title in their 120-year history, finishing the season with 90 points from 34 matches, 28 wins, and six draws. They scored 89 goals and conceded only 24, showcasing the best defence in the league.

Leverkusen finished 17 points ahead of second-placed Stuttgart, who overtook Bayern Munich on the final day. Stuttgart won 4-0 against Borussia Monchengladbach, while Bayern, missing Harry Kane due to injury, lost 4-2 after leading by two goals.

Leverkusen are also vying for a historic treble, remaining undefeated in the Europa League and the DFB Pokal.

Alonso’s men will face Atalanta in the Europa League final on Wednesday and Kaiserslautern in the German Cup final next Saturday.

Leverkusen have previously won the Europa League once, in 1988, and the German Cup once, in 1993.
