Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel and Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti have found themselves at odds after a gripping semifinal showdown on Wednesday, Soccernet.football reports.

Real Madrid clinched a spot in the UEFA Champions League final, edging past Bayern 2-1 in a nail-biting encounter, sealing a 4-3 aggregate victory.

While Tuchel vented his frustration at the officiating team, Ancelotti showered praise on the referee and his assistants for their impeccable performance.

Tuchel’s Fury

Tuchel vented his frustration after the final whistle, slamming referee Szymon Marciniak’s decision to halt play before Bayern’s injury-time equalizer against Real Madrid as nothing short of a betrayal.

Despite Bayern leading 1-0 deep into the second leg, substitute Joselu’s lightning-fast brace in the 88th minute left them reeling.

With Bayern trailing 2-1 in the 13th minute of stoppage time, Matthijs de Ligt’s apparent equalizer was disallowed for offside, leaving Tuchel seething.

Television replays hinted at a potential error in the original call, suggesting a VAR intervention was needed. However, VAR’s hands were tied since play had already been halted.

Speaking to TNT Sports as per BBC, Tuchel labeled the decision as “disastrous” and a violation of the rules.

“There was a disastrous decision from the linesman and the referee. It feels like a betrayal in the end,” Tuchel said.

“The linesman says sorry, but that does not help. To raise the flag in a moment like this… The referee sees we get the second ball and we get the shot.

“It’s hard to swallow but that’s the way it is.”

Referee Szymon Marciniak has offered Thomas Tuchel his apologies for the error, but the former Chelsea boss is left distraught as Real Madrid are already in the final.

“Everyone has to go to their limit, everyone has to suffer, everyone has to play without making mistakes. So the referee has to be at that level too,” Tuchel added.

“It just doesn’t help to make excuses after the fact. You are on the field for this reason, because you are the best there is. And we have the right to expect that until the end.”

Ancelotti’s Support for the Referee

Meanwhile, Real boss Ancelotti has hailed the referee and his assistants for their stellar performance during the match.

The former AC Milan and Everton manager commended the referee’s “top-class” display, emphasizing the fairness and balance in his decisions.

Highlighting a contentious ruling that nullified a valid Real Madrid goal earlier, Ancelotti defended the referee’s judgment.

“The last move was fairly clear. It may not have been offside but the linesman raises his flag, the referee blows his whistle and we stop,” Ancelotti asserted.

“If they complain about that, we’ll talk about the goal we had ruled out. Kimmich dives; they were both shoving each other. He’s a top-class referee who has officiated the World Cup final.”
