France coach Didier Deschamps has announced his 25-man squad for next month’s Europea. Championship (Euro 2024) to be hosted by Germany, Soccernet.football reports.

PSG striker Kylian Mbappé, 25, is included and will captain the team for the first time in a major tournament. Mbappé, who missed a crucial penalty in France’s Euro 2020 exit against Switzerland, will look to make amends.

The most surprising inclusion is N’Golo Kanté, 33, who returns to the squad for the first time since June 2022. The former Chelsea midfielder will look to provide steel and energy in the middle of the park for the former world champions.

PSG winger Bradley Barcola, 21, is the only debutant in the squad. Another young talent, 18-year-old Warren Zaïre-Emery, also makes the squad after being named Young Ligue 1 Player of the Year.

Veteran striker Olivier Giroud, 37, is expected to play his last major tournament before moving to LAFC.

Meanwhile, PSG left-back Lucas Hernandez misses out due to an ACL injury. Despite minor injuries, Real Madrid’s Aurélien Tchouaméni and Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman are both included.

France, aiming for their first Euro win since 2000, will play friendlies against Luxembourg in Metz on June 5 and Canada in Bordeaux on June 9. They start their Euro campaign against Austria on June 17 in Leipzig, followed by matches against the Netherlands on June 21 and Poland on June 25.

France’s Euro 2024 Squad:

Goalkeepers: Alphonse Areola (West Ham), Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Brice Samba (Lens)

Defenders: Jonathan Clauss (Marseille), Théo Hernandez (AC Milan), Ibrahima Konaté (Liverpool), Jules Koundé (Barcelona), Ferland Mendy (Real Madrid), Benjamin Pavard (Inter Milan), William Saliba (Arsenal), Dayot Upamecano (Bayern Munich)

Midfielders: Eduardo Camavinga (Real Madrid), Youssouf Fofana (Monaco), Antoine Griezman (Atlético de Madrid), N’Golo Kanté (Al-Nassr), Adrien Rabiot (Juventus), Aurélien Tchouaméni (Real Madrid), Warren Zaïre-Emery (PSG)

Forwards: Bradley Barcola (PSG), Kingsley Coman (Bayern Munich), Ousmane Dembélé (PSG), Olivier Giroud (AC Milan), Randal Kolo Muani (PSG), Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Marcus Thuram (Inter Milan)
